Free Air Source Heat Pumps & Solar Grant
If you receive ECO4 benefits as a homeowner or private tenant, we will conduct an Energy Performance Report (EPR) to check if your property is rated E or below and does not have a Gas supply. If you meet these criteria, you may be eligible for a government grant to install an Air Source Heat pump and Solar. However, if you own a property with an existing gas boiler, you will not qualify. If you reside in a rental property, you must obtain permission from your landlord or letting agent before proceeding. If you want to upgrade your heating system, such as electric room heaters, portable electric heaters, inefficient storage heaters, oil/LPG boilers with gas boilers, and central heating, your property must have a gas meter installed before 01-04-2022 (evidence is required).
Air-source heat pumps may not work efficiently in homes with drafts and poor insulation. It is advisable to upgrade your electrical service to support whole-house electric heating. Additionally, it is recommended to keep a backup heating system in case the weather becomes too cold for your heat pump to handle. However, if you want to reduce the running costs of a heat pump, installing solar panels on your property can be helpful.
What’s an air source heat pump?
An air source heat pump is a device that extracts warmth from the air and uses it to heat your home and give you hot water, just like a fridge in reverse. It operates throughout the year, even during cold weather. Air source heat pumps are increasingly popular in the UK as they offer a great environmentally friendly and cost-effective alternative to traditional heating systems. According to the Energy Saving Trust, an air-source heat pump can reduce emissions by 44% annually. In addition to keeping your home warm, air-source heat pumps can efficiently produce hot water, surpassing traditional oil or gas-fired boilers.
Is it cheaper to run an air-source heat pump?
Heat pumps become less efficient and more expensive to run when the weather is cold outside than gas boilers since they require more electricity. Even though they are still more efficient than gas boilers (98%), electricity costs 3-4 times more per kWh than gas. Therefore, gas boilers are cheaper to run overall.
LA Flex Eligibility?
Please see the London Authority Flexible Criteria. If you do not receive any of the benefits listed as ECO4 qualifying benefits, one of the following is required.
- Total household gross income is less than £31,000 (P60, job pay slip OR pension statement etc, will be needed as proof)
- Been identified by doctors as Low-income and vulnerable (GP letter will be needed as proof)
